How to maintain excavator undercarriage?

Although the undercarriage parts are all iron products, it's also very important for excavators, and it's also the easiest to ignore. The excavator undercarriage part is mainly divided into: dozer track roller, sprocket, front idler, driving wheel, crawler, commonly known as four-wheel belt. Undercarriage parts are unknown all day and play an important role in the post, but you should also devote part of your energy and attention to the maintenance of undercarriage parts. Maintaining a good habit of operation and correct maintenance measures will save a lot of maintenance costs!

1. Keep track tension moderate

Incorrect track tension may result in increased track wear and even derailment. Therefore, proper tension must be maintained. Generally speaking, when the operator works in soft and muddy conditions, it is recommended to loosen the track slightly.

2. Make sure the undercarriage is clean

At the end of each working day, the excavator operator should take time to clean up dirt and other debris that may cause accumulation in the undercarriage system. Shovels and pressure washers can be used to help clean the undercarriage system. If the rubber track undercarriage is not cleaned regularly, premature wear of components will be accelerated. If you work in a colder climate, the soil, dirt and debris will freeze. Once the material freezes, it starts to rub the bolts, loosen the guides and jam the rollers, causing potential wear later. Therefore, cleaning the undercarriage system helps prevent unnecessary downtime.

3. Check the undercarriage system regularly

It is important to complete a comprehensive inspection of the used undercarriage parts for excessive or uneven wear and for damaged or missing components. If the machine is used in harsh applications or other challenging conditions, the crawler undercarriage may need to be checked more frequently.

During a routine machine tour, the operator should check the track to see if any of the components appear to be unsuitable. If so, this may indicate that the track shoes are loose or the track pins are broken. In addition, check rollers, idlers and drives for oil leakage. These leaks may indicate seal failure, resulting in serious roller, idler, or track drive motor failure. Always follow the manufacturer's operation and maintenance manual for proper undercarriage system maintenance.

4. Recommend rubber track

Rubber tracks can be used on small excavators, and these models perform well in a variety of applications. Most notably, the rubber track has good floating performance, allowing the excavator to travel and work on soft ground. The rubber track has the least ground disturbance to the finished surface (such as concrete, grass or asphalt).

5. Follow correct procedures

Excavator operators should follow the basic operating procedures outlined in the manufacturer's operation and maintenance manual to minimize excessive wear and track degradation. The skid steer undercarriage accounts for a large part of the track replacement cost. It's made up of expensive parts. Adhering to these maintenance techniques, as well as proper track maintenance, can help you keep your total cost of ownership down and extend your mini excavator undercarriage and track life.
