Several Things to Consider When Choosing a Crawler and Wheeled Excavator

The reason why wheel excavators are becoming more and more popular is the mobility, city-friendliness and productivity of wheel excavators. However, caterpillar excavators also have advantages over wheel excavators. If you as the operator are trying to decide whether a crawler or a wheel excavators is the most suitable machine for the project, there are a few things to consider.

Understanding crawler and wheeled excavators will help drive an informed decision to ensure a more efficient and economical use of your time and money.

The Terrain

Crawler excavators have a low center of gravity and are more suitable for working on soft, uneven ground and hills. If the site is particularly rocky, in some construction sites, the track chain will not be pierced by uneven stones, rocks or raw materials. Wheeled excavators do have stabilizer lift arms and machinery accessories to ensure stability during work, but the track shoes provide even weight distribution during driving. For road, city or bridge projects, wheeled excavators provide a traffic and road-friendly option. They can drive from one site to another by themselves. It is safe to operate on the completed road without worrying about asphalt or concrete damage. With universal caterpillar machine attachments, they can accomplish the same tasks as crawler excavators and provide the same level of lifting and digging power.

The Nature of the Work

If you are looking for an excavator with more functions and a powerful tool carrier, then a bucket wheel excavator is more suitable. Wheeled excavators provide a road-friendly option for municipal work. On the contrary, crawler excavators are very useful in places where there is no need to consider protecting the terrain. They are powerful tools to open up new horizons, clean up and excavate.

The Transport

Need to be more careful, and in some cases additional equipment is needed to move them out of the field. If you are doing a long-term job and do not need to move the equipment to the field, a crawler excavator may be good.

The wheel loader works well, and the dual hydraulic arms allow the arms to be fully retracted for greater visibility while driving, if you want to move the equipment between worksites to reduce the city center, especially if the equipment will need to be driven on city roads. Wheeled excavators are completely the best choice.

The Stability

Wheeled and crawler excavators are comparable in terms of working stability. Wheeled excavators use brackets on the machine to keep the machine stable. When the equipped bulldozer attachment is lowered, additional stability is given.

The Budget

Wheeled excavators may be more expensive than track link excavators in the early stage. However, in terms of long-term maintenance, the cost of wheeled excavators is lower. They have less damage to the chassis, easier replacement of parts, longer wheels and brakes, and lower replacement costs.

If you want wheeled excavators, this is unlikely to happen because their rental market is not common. As they become more popular, they may become more accessible in the rental market.
